Microneedling with PRP Therapy
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine (micro) needles to help boost the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production.
More recently, microneedling has been used in conjunction with platelet-rich plasma – the body’s “fountain of youth” which has been shown to enhance the results and overall effectiveness of microneedling.
This treatment helps improve skin texture and firmness, reduces scarring and pigmentation, improves circulation, and helps promote collagen production.
Are you looking for an option to treat a skin or hair loss condition?
Microneedling with PRP treatment has been shown to be effective in addressing a number of concerns including:
- Pigmentation
- Collagen loss
- Sagging skin
- Wrinkles
- Large pores
- Acne scarring
- Stretch marks
- Hair loss and thinning for men and women
What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?
Platelet-rich plasma – the body’s “fountain of youth” – is created using a patient’s own blood cells.
A small amount of blood is withdrawn from the patient and spun in a centrifuge which extracts the plasma (containing platelets and critical growth factors).
In microneedling with PRP therapy, the concentrated plasma is reintroduced back into the patient’s damaged, scarred, or problem areas using a Dermapen or a micro-needling device.
The growth factors in the platelets trigger the body’s intrinsic healing processes and helps to reduce inflammation, boost collagen production, and naturally rejuvenate the skin.
What can you expect from a Microneedling with PRP Treatment at The Skinsmith?
Each microneedling with PRP treatment session usually takes around an hour and a half. Most treatment plans require four to six sessions in order for patients to fully benefit from the PRP therapy.
At The Skinsmith Clinic, each patient will be assessed, and given a customised treatment, management, and prevention plan based on their specific needs.
Does it hurt?
Microneedling is slightly uncomfortable, but is not extremely painful. At The Skinsmith Clinic, we use Dermapens and micro-needling devices which have been specially designed to reduce skin tearing and damage and cause the least amount of discomfort to the patient.
We do, however, apply a topical numbing cream for sensitive areas.
PRP for Wound Repair
40 Minutes – 1 Hour
2-6 Treatments*
From R600 / treatment
Anaesthetic: no
Recovery time: none
Benefits:
When applied post-surgery, it has been shown to aid in wound healing, fighting infections, reduction of inflammation, and repairing scar tissue. It has also been shown to help heal acute wounds in those with underlying conditions such as diabetes.
* Number of treatments may vary depending on the patient’s condition.
PRP for Pore Reduction
1 – 1.5 Hours
4-6 Treatments*
From R1 500 / treatment
Anaesthetic: yes (topical)
Recovery time: 1 – 3 days
Results last **18 Months – 2 Years
Benefits:
Enlarged pores are usually formed due to a build up of sebum (the body’s natural moisturising oils) and dirt under the skin. Aging also affects the skin’s elasticity, and over the years, pores can be ‘stretched’ out, making them appear larger. Individuals who have been exposed to the sun may also have the appearance of larger pores.
Microneedling with PRP has been shown to help reduce the appearance of stretched pores through boosting collagen production, thus increasing the elasticity and ‘fullness’ of the skin and reducing pore size.
*Number of treatments may vary depending on the patient’s condition.
**The new cell growth in your skin generated by the Platelet Rich Plasma takes weeks to months, which is why it looks so much better after more time passes. Botox and other filler treatments break down with time, but the Platelet Rich Plasma lasts and looks better as long as 18 months to two years.
PRP for Hair Loss & Thinning
1 – 1.5 Hours
4-6 Treatments*
R2 000 / treatment
Anaesthetic: yes
Recovery time: 1 – 4 Days
Results last **18 Months to 2 Years
Benefits:
Microneedling with PRP has been shown to be highly effective in treating hair loss and thinning in men and women.
By injecting the patient’s own plasma – which is rich in growth factor – into the hair follicles during the growth phase of the hair cycle, PRP can promote regrowth as well as boost hair thickness and overall health.
*After treatment, you need to return every 6 months long term for follow up.
